How is Latex measured or classified?

Latex is measured by ILD instead of density, (density is used for visco elastic memory foam)

The ( ILD ) acronym stands for Initial Load Deflection

ILD is the measurement of the amount of pressure applied to depress the latex surface 1"

Higher ILD equals more support, and more Initial Load Deflection

Is Latex really that effective?

          Yes,
Talalay Latex provides cradling comfort, and is used in toppers and latex core mattresses.
Dunlop Latex is more supportive and is used primarily in Sealy latex mattress cores.
The Highest quality latex available is 100% latex
Sealy Spring Free latex mattresses are made with 100% latex cores.
the most resilient, supple, and consistent latex generally available is 19 to 37  ILD
Sealy Spring Free Dunlop Latex - Provides Conforming Support with  40 ILD

The Talalay Process

The finest natural latex is combined with soaps and curing agents in temperature controlled stainless steel mix tanks.  Advanced load cells provide precise batch control while in-line filters eliminate impurities.  The mix tanks maintain the finished compound at the optimum temperature before it is filtered again and piped to foamers in the press room on a just in time basis.

Then comes the Foam & Pour.
Mixed compound is transported to foamers at each of the four banks of presses in the press room.  The foamed compound is then precisely measured, and poured by advanced ABB robotic arms.  The compound is then placed into aluminum pincore molds which create the unique aerated cell structure of Sealy Spring Free  latex.

Vacuum & Freeze

Once pouring is complete, the mold is sealed and  vacuum pulled, perfectly distributing the foam compound.  Flash freezing (unique to the Talalay process) prevents the particles from settling and ensures a consistent cell structure.  CO2 is then introduced into the mold causing the foam to gel.  Lastly, the mold is heated to 220 degrees to cure the gelled latex into its final shape.

Wash

Automated conveyor systems sort and transfer the mattress cores from the press room to high pressure, fresh water washers.  5 banks with 12 self cleaning water jets wash away residual soaps, curing agents, and proteins.  Between each set of jets, the products are squeezed to less than 4% of their total thickness to remove the maximum amount of residual materials remaining from the process.

Dry
The conveyor system then transfers the Sealy Spring Free latex cores to dryers, (150 Feet in length).  This completes the curing process.  Each dryer has four temperature zones adjusted to best cure products and ensure optimum feel.

Test

Every mattress core is tested in 9 locations ensuring head to toe firmness consistency.  Each core is labeled with a unique product I.D., batch information, weight and quality rating.

Does the new Sealy Spring Free Latex resist crumbling over time?

Yes - even though Latex was very popular years 20 - 30 years ago, construction methods are different than some of the generic latex versions popular in the past.

Latex was very expensive due to limited availability

To save money, Latex companies used additives (clay and fillers) to use less latex and make more profits.  This produced a cheaper product resulting in less durability, cracking. and drying out

Bassett, Stearns & Foster, and Sealy products feature the finest Latex and are 100% Natural Latex - no additives

Would the Latex mattress bend in half when delivered?

Yes - latex is very flexible and would bend if not packaged properly.

However, the bending properties makes latex mattresses ideal for adjustable beds

All Latex Mattresses are bagged and then boxed with a Crate Support System  which Prevents folding and easier handling.

Can Latex mattresses be used on platform beds?

Yes - Due to the nature of Latex and design of the cores (Dunlop support core / Talalay toppers)

Dunlop latex provides Conforming Support

Talalay Latex provides Cradling Comfort

Latex is very durable and resists depressions

Lower profile design allows for use as an alternative for Platform beds, Adjustable beds, Futons, Murphy beds

Are Latex mattresses hot?

No.  It is naturally cooler than Nasa beds and Memory Foam products.

A major benefit of latex is that it is Breathable

100% latex composition with fiber which allows circulation between the tick and mattress

Pin core holes add air circulation

Latex Mattresses Keep you warmer in winter and cooler in summer

Consumers who have concerns about Dust Mites.

Latex does not support dust-mite reproduction

Latex beds have less dust-mites than innerspring mattresses

Where in Europe is Dunlop produced?

Dunlop is produced in France.

Sealy Inc purchased the production facility, SAPSA which is the #1 producer of latex

in Europe and provides latex for the leading Pirelli branded latex beds in Europe

How do Sealy Spring Free Latex Mattresses differ from Tempurpedics?

Visco Memory Foam vs Latex

Latex and Visco (memory foam) have opposite behaviors:

Both offer excellent body support but unique feels.

Latex is bouncy, springy, and naturally resists any compression.
Memory foam re-forms at a slower rate.

Latex enables the sleeper turn, assisting in natural part of sleep cycle

Memory Foam requires slightly more effort to turn.
Latex is impervious to room temperature
Memory foam is very temperature sensitive, and reacts more strongly to its environment.

Latex Springs back to shape after use – Latex performs like a Rubber Band and Visco like sponge

Provides continuous pressure point reduction, latex offers 30% less stress to pressure points vs. visco.

Latex rubber tree sap and soap based vs. Visco, petroleum based.
Latex is natural and considered a 'greener' product.
More bang for the buck!  Jersey Knit tick vs. Terry Cloth.
Spring Free Latex Mattresses have a 100% Latex Core where Tempurpedic mattresses are NOT 100% visco.

Sealy Spring Free Latex Mattresses have cloth mattress handles.

Latex is baked and thermo bonded to cure the foam, this makes the product more consistent and durable vs visco, where curing is caused by a chemical reaction, also, due to gravity, the bottom layers of the visco foam are more dense which makes a  Visco batch's density less consistent from top to bottom.
